About this venue

Taverna tou Zisi is a traditional taverna on Machis Kritis Avenue in Rethymno, about four kilometres from the city centre, on the old Rethymno–Heraklion national road near the Amariotiko junction. It has operated since 1972, when grandfather Zisis and grandmother Chryssoula opened a family-oriented place that grew into a popular spot for Cretan residents and visitors. The central hall displays a daily showcase of Cretan and Asia Minor cooked dishes at noon and in the evening, based on family recipes. Guests can choose from 35 to 40 meat, fish, vegetable and tomato-sauce dishes made with fresh Cretan ingredients, plus grilled local meats and fried titbits. Takeaway is available. In summer, meals are served in the courtyard under the shade of trees. The taverna has parking and a fenced children's play area, and hosts social events for up to 150 people.
